“I made my body a machine / Wires and veins” opens Running in a Dream, the first single of ARY’s new album. She moves forward from the sorrow of her past work without erasing it, allowing it to remain part of her ongoing transformation. Exploring the tensions of darkness versus light, reality versus simulation, machine versus human.

Drawing from the analog photography technique of solarization, also called the Sabatier effect, famously used by Man Ray. In this process, tones invert: darkness becomes light, and light becomes darkness. We interpreted this into a custom shader algorithm, allowing the effect to live and shift within digital material.
